Django Django Takes a Trip with the Simple Use Reloadable Film Camera

Mercury-nominated band Django Django has been gracing the world with their joyful, jaunty, synth-heavy pop tunes since 2012. Now, with the release of their fourth album "Glowing In The Dark" in full swing, we decided to send them some Simple Use Reloadable Film Cameras to document the life of a band in lockdown. What came back was a series of color-drenched, abstract experiments that remind us that you don't need fancy equipment to create interesting photos. In this article, we spoke to drummer Jim Dixon about his experiences using this compact camera.

Hello Jim welcome to the Lomography Magazine, please tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Jim and I play bass guitar for Django Django. We released our debut album in 2012 and have just released our 4th record Glowing in the dark.

Where does your musical inspiration come from?

It comes from everywhere. Films, music, art. We write together so we always take inspiration from each other. I guess it’s difficult to pin down a specific inspiration as we listen to so many different genres of music. I listen to a lot of jazz and exotica, Dave is a DJ so has a huge record collection.

If you could describe your sound in up to 5 words what would they be?

Exotic Jazz Space Picnic Quintet

How did you get on shooting with the Simple Use cameras?

Yeah, I enjoyed using it. Relatively simple and was great to just be able to stick it in my pocket throughout the day.

What did you choose to shoot?

I had the camera with me during the second lockdown in Margate where I live. I took a few shots kicking about town with my kids and then had a day back in the studio recently.

What are you working on currently? Any new projects coming up?

We’re back rehearsing for a few shows over summer and will then be back out on our headline tour from October fingers crossed. We’ve got a lot of music we’ve been working on over the past year too so we’ll be slowly working out what we’re gonna do with it!
