Fernando Sciotto Brings Krishna to World with the LomoChrome Turquoise Film

Spain-based Lomographer Fernando Sciotto is no new to our color-shifting films: he loves experimenting! Find out his first impressions on our LomoChrome Turquoise film.

Hi Fernando, welcome back! You've tried our LomoChrome Turquoise film for the first time: tell us about your expectations vs the results you got.

It was my first time using LomoChrome Turquoise. I researched about colors and found photos of people with a blue skin tone so the first thing that came to mind was representing Krishna. Krishna means "dark blue" or "attractive" in Sanskrit, the Indian language. A personified god of Hinduism, he is the representation of the manifestations of the supreme God in the world, according to the Hindu tradition. He is the god of compassion, tenderness and love, and one of the most popular and widely revered deities. The result has exceeded my expectations, I have noticed great sharpness in this film and very vivid colors.

You are not new to color-shifting films. What do you like the most of these special emulsions and what are the challenges when using them?

It is easy for me to use these emulsions, I like the intensity and contrast that I get when shooting at ISO 400, and having only 12 exposures I usually think about each photo a lot, and imagine beforehand how the colors will be, I always look for details that generate visual impact.

How do you generally feel about experimental films?

This type of special film can transport you to other worlds, they raise the imagination. Previously I have used the LomoChrome Purple to turn a simple beach surrounded by industries into a post-apocalyptic setting, or the Lomochrome Metropolis in hidden red mountains to generate a unique aesthetic of an immaculate natural environment and a connection between woman and the earth.

How did you choose the location and styling for these portraits?

The place is a corner of Barcelona, on the side of the Montjuic mountain, there are many flowers and cactus from all over the world, and it was perfect to show a deity like Krishna, directly in the most exotic nature. Salvathai was in charge of the styling, he is a photographer who is very connected with Thailand and has a large collection of jewelry and he often uses that Khmer influence in his work. Laia Perabà was our model, a multi-faceted actress that is very good at understanding what she has to interpret: it was very easy to work with her. Stravss, photographer, filmmaker, hairdresser and makeup artist was in charge of the makeup: I can always count on him.

Which camera did you use?

When it comes to medium format I always work with my Hasselblad 500c.

What advice would you give to someone using this film for the first time?

It was my first time too, I would tell you to have fun with the colors, that's the idea... and play a bit with purple clothes, because it turns into a beautiful red!
