Hello Pierre, welcome to our magazine! Could you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Pierre David, I'm based in Hossegor on the west coast of France. At the moment, my life is mainly centered around my family, various photo/film projects, friends, surfing, running and meditation. The rest of the time I try to find inspiration as much as possible.

What is your relationship with film photography?

It's the simplicity and calm that I'm looking for in film photography. When you work a lot in digital, you often get locked into a frenetic and intensive use of the cameras because the technology allows you to go so fast and shoot without interruption, it's endless. But the relationship with the subject or the photo you are trying to create is not the same, it's a totally different approach, shapeable but paradoxically truncated. Analogue photography is much more honest, sensitive, the error is forgiven and sublimated. Whereas in digital photography you don't really have the right to make mistakes.

How would you define your photographic style? Are there any subjects you prefer to photograph?

My style is constantly evolving so it's hard to describe, but I would say that the subject is often part of the whole rather than the center of the image. I like simple compositions, I like black and white because it cuts through and is less complex than color in what it tells. When I use color I like it to be intense, with lots of contrasts, to recreate that emotion of duality. I would say that there is a part of darkness and light, of up and down and nostalgia.

You recently went on a trip to Costa Rica and Mexico. Can you tell us more about it?

We left for two months with my partner, my one year old baby and my three year old daughter, far from Covid and the cold. Without much purpose except to make our children discover nice places and community, surf in warm water, wander and recharge.

You also went to Iceland. How was the trip?

Iceland is an incredible place, so rough and out of time, it is sumptuous.

How was your experience with the LomoChrome Purple film?

I have been using LomoChrome Purple for a long time but I am still trying to master it. It's not a simple emulsion, it varies so much depending on the light and the colors that it's hard to understand, especially on skins and plants. I particularly like to use it in nature and see how it transforms it.

Do you think it's a good film to capture travel and landscapes?

Yes, but not for everything. I often load it in a point and shoot camera like Contax T2 or G2 and another more classic film in another camera and I alternate between the two.

Do you have any other upcoming projects that you would like to share with us?

A film and photo series about a community in Texas.
