LomoChrome Purple & The Great Outdoors – Photos by Community Member @cassiecorr

Out and about in nature is no doubt one of the best ways to use LomoChrome Purple. Due to its intense capacity for color shifts, it's exciting to see how the film stock will work its magic depending on the location and vegetation.

We were enchanted by the photos shared by community member Cassie Corridoni (@cassiecorr) using the film stock. She has used LomoChrome Purple in a variety of situations, such as a hike to the Lassen Volcanic National Park, Zion National Park and Canyonlands National Park, a photoshoot in orchards and a documentation of bird migration through the Pacific Flyway.

We recently had a chat with Cassie and got to know more about her background in film photography and strong connection to nature. Let's dive into it!

Can you tell us about yourself and how you started shooting with film?

I am from Cleveland, Ohio but have been living on the West coast for the past seven years. I took the train to Oregon to volunteer on a farm through the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF), for what was supposed to be a three week trip, but I fell in love with the mountains and have roamed around the Pacific Northwest ever since.

I am currently a graduate student at California State University, Chico, and plan to work as an Environmental Scientist. I began shooting film in 2011 and learned on my mom’s old Canon AE-1.

What's your current gear composed of and what are your favorite film stocks?

I swear by my Nikon FM2n because the shutter still fires even if the battery dies (and that’s crucial if you’re in the wilderness!), and it has a double exposure lever, which is also super critical to my work. I also have a Mint Polaroid SX-70.

I reach for LomoChrome Purple quite a bit still, but my favorite are expired films and slide films.

Speaking of the LomoChrome Purple, what do you like most about it? What are the environments you'd suggest shooting it in?

I love LomoChrome Purple for its unusual and psychedelic look, and also its reliability. I always shoot this film at 200 ISO and avoid darker environments as brighter shooting conditions get you those bright purples, pinks and blues, which is what I am looking for.

Nature is a big part of your photography. Can you share with us your connection to the outdoors and how it plays a role in your craft?

I’ve always loved being outdoors, but once I moved to Montana in 2017, everything changed and I became absolutely obsessed with wildlife, backpacking, pristine mountain environments, identifying plants, and especially birds!

So, my two loves in life get to combine when I shoot film in nature, and I naturally find double exposures with delicate wildflowers or natural textures overlaid more dreamy anyways.

Do you have a favorite film photo and can you tell us the story behind it?

This is an image of Ahmed, a Moroccan guide who led my partner and I through the Sahara desert overnight, on one-humped dromedaries (different from camels) whose names are Mimoon and Mabrok.

My partner and I backpacked abroad in 2017, staying one month in Morocco, knowing nothing about the country. It was a beautiful experience and we got to spend a night sleeping on the velvety-smooth sand of the Sahara desert.

I shot just one roll of film for the entire journey and had the audacity to soak it in the kitchen cleaner! Luckily, I was thrilled with the results.

Lastly, do you have projects you'd like to share with us?

As soon as I complete my Thesis this coming spring, I plan to do more bird photography. I am experimenting with shooting birds on film as well as trying my hand at digital again, which I never thought I’d do! Film photography will always be my favorite though.
