LomoAmigo: Courtney Barnett
5 10 Share TweetAustralian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett sings about the frustrations, disappointments and the mundane aspects of life in her own animated and sometimes Dylan-esque style. Her debut album “Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit” was released this year and has been getting positive reviews. We tweeted about her new album and she responded to say that she loved Lomography. It was the perfect opportunity for a shoot and an interview.

My name is Courtney. I write songs and play guitar. I also draw and take photos. I enjoy swimming and walking up mountains.
What inspires you to write music?
My environment inspires me. If i’m locked up in a room I will write introverted songs about the carpet. If i’m travelling across the country-side I will write epic bush ballads. Music is a way to express what i’m feeling and communicate my thoughts which i’m no good at talking about.
What advice would you give to other budding musicians who want to make in in the music industry?
Don’t listen to anyone in the music industry, just make your art and be awesome at it!
How was your experience shooting with the Fisheye?
I enjoy the simplicity of it; knowing that you can never truly frame anything how you plan it means you’re always in for a pleasant (or not-so-pleasant) surprise.
If your photos could have a soundtrack, what would it be? (5 songs, title and artist please)
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
Four Seasons In One Day – Crowded House
Love Cats – The Cure
Once In A Lifetime – Talking Heads
Wide Open Road – The Triffids
Any future plans?
I’m writing a lot. I’m gonna paint an old guitar this weekend. Always working on my Polaroid portraits collection. Couple of shows with Blur. Touring in Japan for the first time. More touring. Adventures in nature. Maybe record another album soon.

The Deluxe Edition of the album is released on Nov 6th via Marathon Artists
