4

The last time we spoke to June, she had taken her Lomo'Instant Wide Camera on a motorbike trip across Thailand – a journey spanning over 700 kilometers (434.96 miles). An adventurer at heart, she recently took another motorbike trip all the way to the north of Pakistan and took along the ultra-portable Sprocket Rocket 35 mm Panoramic Camera and some LomoChrome Purple film. The feat was truly inspiring and her photos truly give the scenery justice. In this interview we talk to June about her latest adventure, why she chose to use the Sprocket Rocket and LomoChome Purple film, and some memorable moments from the trip.

Greetings June! It's been a while since you were last featured in our magazine. Can you introduce yourself again to our readers and tell us what have you been up to since then?

Hello. My name is June. I live in Bangkok, Thailand. I am an office lady who loves traveling with my motorcycle and taking photos, especially photos of natural landscapes. After being featured in the magazine last year, I went to many places in Thailand and other countries. My most recent trip was to the northern part of Pakistan in autumn.

Can you tell us more about this trip to Pakistan and what was it like?

On this trip, I started from Thailand and travelled to Gilgit-Baltistan, which is a beautiful town in the northern part of Pakistan. This trip was a road trip which we mainly traversed using our motorcycles. We rode and enjoyed the beautiful countryside in autumn where the trees were yellow, orange, and red. Everything was beautiful and the landscapes were also exciting. It was a trip that I really enjoyed taking photos of. I was very impressed.

You used the Sprocket Rocket on this trip. Tell us about your experience with the camera.

The Sprocket Rocket is not a complicated camera, but it requires some experience in evaluating situations in order to ensure whether times and light conditions can give us photos meeting our needs. If we don’t understand these factors, it will be considered that it is quite hard to take good photos.

You also used the LomoChrome Purple film with another camera. How was your experience using it and what made you decide to use it for this trip?

LomoChrome Purple is the film used in the main camera of this trip. Because I traveled during the fall season I thought the characteristics of LomoChrome Purple would blend well with the colors of the season. Just thinking about these tones and how they would come together truly excited me and I thought that this film stock might make photos look more interesting than normal films. After getting the results I was truly satisfied by this set of photos.

What were some of the highlights of this trip?

The highlight of this trip was riding the motorcycle in the countryside surrounded by all these lush trees and majestic views which is something that is truly an unforgettable experience. Seeing the trees in autumn's colors was truly something to behold especially mixing with the snow-covered mountain tops and light blue rivers was really breathtaking. I am always happy when I think of this trip, and I will remember it forever.

Amongst all the pictures from Pakistan do you have any favorites?

These two photos are my favorite ones because they show the results I wanted to achieve from using these combinations of film stocks and cameras. At the same time, they also highlight really well the identity and characteristics of the gear I used. They clearly show how unique the camera was and what I expected about selecting the film for each camera really gave me the photos I wanted.

Do you have any advice for travelling and shooting film?

Make sure to be comfortable with the gear you are using before you go on a trip in order to get the best results. Sometimes trips could be once in a lifetime which is why I try to make sure there is no room for error. I want to get the best possible photos in order to remember these places.

Anything you want to share with the rest of the Lomography Community?

Always take your time to select the destination you want to go. You do not have to cram everything in one go but take the time to appreciate the places you will be visiting. Take many photos, find your happiness, and enjoy the moment.
